Gosh, big questions from you as always.There's a lot of exciting stuff happening at SURI, much of which I can't share just yet, so keep your eyes on our socials. But in terms of my role: despite B Corp standards turning a fair few sustainability managers' hair grey, I'm excited to get stuck into our human rights and environmental risk assessments (I'll probably laugh at that statement very soon). I feel like we have a lot of blind spots, so I'm keen to get to know the nitty-gritty of our products better and engage our suppliers along the way.
As for the world....there's a lot of bad news and anxiety about at the moment (this heat dome is freaking me out), but one good story I read in Carbon Brief's newsletter this week gave me hope: new research suggests up to 30% of the world's coral reefs could be "resilient" against climate change, with the best-positioned reefs spread across 71 countries. As the lead author put it, reefs are in dire straits, but there are still "pockets of resistance and pockets of resilience" so this is really exciting me and giving me a bit of hope :)
