👀 We're back!
Have you missed us?
Just over a year ago we announced that there was a new chapter on the horizon for Following the Footprints. We put out an open call for new leadership and were really excited and touched by the interest we received.
Running on nearly empty, our last bit of energy went on screening the potential new owners in the pipeline. We got close to picking, but none were quite right - they didn’t preserve FTF’s mission, which was non-negotiable from the start. So, we quietly shut that chapter, hoping that in the future our next move would present itself to us….
Which brings me to today. After working as the co-editor of FTF for over a year, and then not writing for a year since, I found that nothing else was filling the hole that its absence had left. That hole had two elements to it:
Editing, writing and co-running the community helped me to stay in touch with other amazing people in sustainability. My awareness of what brands were doing and how the industry was shifting and evolving was always dialled up as far as possible so that we always had fresh and exciting content.
We were creating a lot of content from a lot of sources and contributors. I genuinely loved reading it all! I don’t feel that any other newsletter has covered this particular niche like we did. And I feel I can say that with confidence because I signed up to about 356 different newsletters in the name of market research!
The more I became aware of what I was missing, the more the itch grew to pick FTF back up, dust it off (as if I could ever call us fabulous people dusty, but I’m trying to stick to one metaphor here people) and deliver it back to your inboxes. I reached out to Leone, our amazing and magnetic founder, and asked for her blessing to bring FTF back to you.
Thankfully she is all-knowing and had already been calmly waiting for me to come to her with this request.
So, we are back! I’m going to be editing and writing as I have done before, and that’s not all that we want to keep the same. We are:
Still serving the same niche, sustainability for FMCG brands
Still by sustainability professionals for sustainability professionals, if you work in sustainability for a consumer brand, we want to hear from you! We want to know what you want to read about and we also want you to write (get in touch!)
Still giving you actionable insights and keeping you up-to-date. We want these newsletters to leave you feeling energised and inspired. We need it now more than ever!
Still completely free!
Here is what we will be changing, to make sure that our publication is sustainable from a human energy perspective…
We’ll be hitting your inbox once a fortnight rather than twice a week. We know we are not the only ones overwhelmed by information and workloads, we don’t want to be part of your never ending inbox backlog.
We are doubling down on Substack. We absolutely loved creating extra resources for you, like the amazing MEASURE database, but let’s not kid ourselves, the whole landscape of searching has changed with the dawn of AI-everywhere. The newsletter and some bite-sized updates on LinkedIn will be where we focus our efforts.
Keep an eye out for our first proper newsletter coming your way, featuring guest writer Cora, Sustainability Manager at SURI 🪥
✨ If you want to give us a little welcome back present (I know that was your first thought when you saw that FTF is back), please share our newsletter with peers in the industry to help us reach a wider audience and find more amazing stories to share.
