Hello! It’s the Following the Footprints team here with a small intermission to our usual email programming. We are really thrilled to share that over the next few months we’ll be growing the team behind this platform, and we’d love for you to join.
Since the start, Following the Footprints has been developed by sustainability professionals, for sustainability professionals. We launched in February 2021 to support consumer goods brands on their missions to be more sustainable, stemming from a frustration at the lack of knowledge sharing between them. Many SMEs are passionate but constrained by their resources, so they often can’t afford the guidance relied on by larger brands. We fill this gap.
Now, in 2023, we’re working hard to achieve this by creating content, building resources and connecting our community. We’d love for you to join us.
Our requirements? All we ask is that you have a strong team spirit, a fascination with consumer goods, an excitement for new ideas and a self-driven work ethic. We’re growing our team with people who share our mission and our energy, whatever their background or area of expertise.

👉 How you can get involved:
New team members have the chance to join and develop areas of Following the Footprints that they’re passionate about. None of us have a background in media or journalism - it’s not necessary, and there’s so much more to what we do. Today, we split our projects into 6 key areas: Research, Growth, Community, Content & Editorial, Platform & Design, Commercial & Partnerships! So…
Don’t want to write, but do want to build out our brand image and platform? Fantastic.
Not keen to run events, but thrilled at idea of mapping the FMCG ecosystem? Amazing.
Uninterested in growth metrics, but excited to interview leading FMCG brands? Incredible.
We are also looking for all important Core Team members to join us (great if you don’t know where your interests lie, or if you want to work across a number of sub-teams).
Here’s the thing - we know how busy you are. We also know how important it is for you to spend the time you do have doing things that bring you joy and develop your skills. Lucky for you, joy and professional development are at the very core of our team ethos. That’s why all team members have the opportunity to dive into areas they’re passionate about, whilst leading initiatives that align with our shared goals.

👉 How we work as a team:
We’re meeting light: Have zoom fatigue? Same here. We have 1 x 1 hour team meeting a month, and all other contributions are coordinated asynchronously.
We’re contribution-focused, not time-based: Average time is estimated at 6-8 hours per month (maximum), but this a) fluctuates, and b) depends on your capacity. For us, it’s not about how much time you spend, but the impact you have - we know everyone works differently.
We’re joy-led: Each team member has the chance to set a goal for the quarter that genuinely brings them joy. You choose what you work on, and how you do it.
We’re equally reimbursed: Any revenue is split 50:50 between covering running costs and the team. Currently, the team aren’t remunerated on a consistent basis, but that might change in the future.
We’re flexible: Have a busy week? Need to focus on a deadline? Fine with us!
We’re friends first: We get together as a group of friends when we can - visiting exhibitions, going to industry events, hosting dinners and meeting up for drinks.
